Austin, Texas, is well known as a progressive city with a vibrant art scene, which includes a vast array of murals scattered throughout the city. These beautiful and eye-catching murals tell a story of the city’s rich cultural history, creativity, and spirit. In this blog, I’ll explore some of the most iconic murals in Austin and what they represent and share some of my photos. While writing this blog, I’ve realized that I only took a few photos on this list, but I’ll get the rest the next time I visit Austin. The “Greetings from Austin” mural is perhaps the most famous mural in Austin. The “Greetings from Austin” mural is on South 1st Street and Annie Street. The mural, painted in 1998 by Todd Sanders, features a postcard-like design with the words “Greetings from Austin” written in bold letters over a backdrop of various Texas landmarks and symbols. The mural has become famous for photo-ops as it perfectly captures the city’s playful and creative spirit.

The “I love you so much” mural is located at 1300 South Congress Avenue and has become a beloved symbol of Austin’s friendly and welcoming spirit. The mural was created in 2010 by artist Amy Cook and depicts the words “I love you so much” written in cursive on the side of a building. The mural has become a popular spot for couples to take photos together.

The “Hi, How Are You?” mural at 21st and Guadalupe Street is another iconic piece of Austin’s street art scene. The mural was created in 1993 by artist Daniel Johnston and depicts a cartoon frog with the words “Hi, How Are You?” written above it. The mural has become a symbol of mental health awareness and has inspired many other works of art and music.

The “Til Death Do Us Part” is located at 6th and Brazos Street and is a newer addition to Austin’s street art scene. It was painted in 2019 by artist Federico Archuleta. The mural features a colorful depiction of a bride and groom in traditional Mexican wedding attire, surrounded by a vibrant floral background. The mural celebrates Austin’s diverse cultural heritage and has become a popular spot for wedding photos.

The “You’re My Butter Half” mural at 2000 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is a whimsical depiction of two halves of a slice of bread, with the words “You’re My Butter Half” written above them. The mural was created in 2012 by artist David Goujon and is another popular spot for couples to take photos.

“Austin Music” mural: This mural is located at South 1st and Annie Street and is a painting of some of the city’s most iconic musicians, including Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Janis Joplin. The mural was painted in 2013 by artist Joe Swec and celebrates Austin’s rich musical past.

The “Te amo mucho, mi amor” mural is located at 1300 East 7th Street and is a colorful image of a woman with flowers in her hair and the words “Te amo mucho, mi amor” written above her. The mural was painted in 2017 by artist Natalia Rocafuerte and celebrates Austin’s diverse and vibrant Latinx community.

The “Texas” mural is a colourful and vibrant on the side of the Roadhouse Relics studio on South 1st Street. The mural was painted in 2013 by artist Rory Skagen and features the word “Texas” in large letters surrounded by iconic Texas images, such as bluebonnets, cacti, and the Alamo.

The “Willie for President” mural is a political mural located on the side of the Roadhouse Relics studio on South 1st Street. The mural was painted in 2016 by artist Wiley Ross and features a portrait of country music legend Willie Nelson with the words “Willie for President” written above it. The mural has become famous for photos in front of the colourful backdrop. The mural reflects the city’s liberal politics and love for country music.
